March 29, 2011 Steve Muehler, President of Alta Vista Companies, announced today a Organic Polymer Solar Technology Joint Venture. Mr. Steven Muehler, President of Alta Vista Companies, announced today a joint venture for the development and commercialization of organic / polymer photovoltaic technology. Alta Vista Companies and its partners are collaborating with leading researchers to improve the efficiency and stability of a low cost, innovative photovoltaic fabrication process that will address the efficiency and cost challenges that have heretofore posed a major barrier to the photovoltaic energy accessibility and affordability. The current global appeal and high cost of adopting Solar Technology has not yielded the much publicized short term cost savings and long term benefit to the society. With average cost of solar electricity of $0.3/KWh compared to the average cost of conventional power generation of $0.05/KWh, solar energy is still beyond the reach of an average home owner or small business and affordable energy still remains a dream. Modular Solar energy generation costs will still remain beyond the small end-user's reach as long as the cost to deliver it remains unaffordable. Average cost to deliver Mono-crystalline Solar power is $4.24/Wp, Multi-crystalline Solar power is $4.10/Wp while Thin Film Solar power is around $3.02/Wp. According to Mr. Muehler, "Organic/Polymer Solar Technology's cost of electricity is currently between $0.49 and $0.85/kWh ($1 and $2.83/Wp). Our long term target cost of electricity of about $0.07/kWh, is achievable because of the promising results of current research and development effort".
