Baroness launches 2012 NatWest CricketForce at Wolverhampton CC | |

March 28, 2012 Baroness Heyhoe Flint was joined by NatWest's Mike Elphick, the Build Center's Gregg Long and club groundsman Barry Richards as they launched Wolverhampton Cricket Club’s 2012 NatWest CricketForce weekend. During the weekend starting 30th March volunteers - including those from NatWest - swap their work clothes for overalls and pick up paint brushes to help cricket clubs prepare for the new season. In addition to the local NatWest team, the Wolverhampton Cricket Club - which is based in Danescourt Road, Tettenhall - will be helped by several groups from the local community including players, members and junior parents, Tettenhall Round Table, Tettenhall tennis club the local Conservative party and local residents. Jason Britton the development manger for Staffordshire Cricket and his team will also be represented. Local butcher John Whitten will be providing food for the BBQ. In 2012, NatWest is strengthening its relationships within the cricketing community by twinning a selection of NatWest branches with a cricket club in their local area. Staff participation during NatWest CricketForce weekend marks the beginning of a season long programme. The branches will also be involved with other club activities throughout the season including NatWest CricketForce Fundraiser as well as providing financial advice and promotion for twinned clubs. In addition to NatWest's support, the Build Center has launched a new £400,000 initiative which will benefit hundreds of cricket clubs nationwide participating in the award-winning NatWest CricketForce initiative. The project requires each participating club to make an initial payment of £100 from their own funds to activate a privilege account. On activation, a further £400 will be added to the account at no charge to the club. The club is then able to spend £500 at Build Center branches nationwide at preferential rates on materials and products required for NatWest CricketForce events. Mike Elphick, NatWest’s senior commercial relationship manager, who is organising the weekend at Wolverhampton Cricket Club, said: "A vast number of cricket clubs across the country survive on modest funds and NatWest CricketForce is all about getting volunteers to come together as a community and help their club. NatWest is committed to supporting the sport at all levels, so when it comes to getting stuck in, our staff are more than willing to get involved. I am delighted that Baroness Heyhoe Flint was able to join me today to launch the event as she has close links with the club." CricketForce is celebrating its eleventh year and its eighth year supported by NatWest. Over the weekend England men’s players including Chris Tremlett and England women’s captain Charlotte Edwards, together with former England players Michael Vaughan, Mike Gatting and David Lloyd will play their part in supporting NatWest CricketForce throughout the UK.
