CIMCON Software Pilots Wireless Streetlight Management System in Haverhill, MA

February 09, 2011

CIMCON Software has been selected by the City of Haverhill, MA to implement its LightingGale wireless streetlight management system as part of a pilot program designed to eliminate the need to turn off the City's street lights.

Boston, MA - CIMCON Software, Inc., the world's leading provider of advanced turnkey industrial automation systems today announced that it has been selected by the City of Haverhill, MA to implement a wireless streetlight management pilot program using its LightingGale solution that is designed to eliminate the need to permanently turn off streetlights.

CIMCON's "LightingGale" is an automated "plug and play" streetlight management system that allows communities to maintain the safety of their residents by turning streetlights ON only when they are needed, thus reducing energy and maintenance costs and contributing to a greener environment. LightingGale uses the latest RF-Wireless, GPRS/GSM and mapping technologies allowing utility personnel to remotely monitor and manage streetlights without leaving their office.

Faced with the prospect of turning off 670 of the city's 4,400 streetlights to save $60,000 annually in energy costs, Haverhill Mayor, James Fiorentini and the City's Green Energy Task Force headed by Jack Bevelacqua and City Councilor Colin LePage sought alternative solutions. In the three month trial pilot program, CIMCON will replace the light sensors on about 50 of Haverhill's streetlights with LightingGale radio frequency-controlled devices. LightingGale helps to reduce energy costs by up to 30% through intelligent switching; and maintenance costs by up to 50% by providing accurate real time web-based information on streetlight status, thus eliminating the need for late night patrols. In addition, LightingGale reduces carbon dioxide emissions and light pollution, providing a more environmentally friendly solution.

"We are very happy that CIMCON Software approached us with the opportunity to pilot this very innovative solution, which will help us reduce our energy and maintenance costs, while protecting the safety of the citizens of Haverhill", said James Fiorentini, Mayor. "The ability to monitor and control our streetlights will also provide us with a clear picture of how our streetlights are actually impacting the City's budget."

"CIMCON Software is very pleased to be entering into a pilot project with the City of Haverhill to help the city advert the need to turn off its street lights", said Anil Agrawal, Director. "The implementation of the pilot system will take approximately one month and will then provide the City with an accurate picture of how much power each light is consuming, thus allowing the City to make an informed decision regarding which lights to turn off or dim, and at which times.
