Commonwealth Bank staff award $2 million in community grants

August 31, 2012

Commonwealth Bank has announced the recipients of the 2012 Community Grants program. 244 grants have been awarded to organisations across the country that support the health and wellbeing of children, with an overall total of $2 million awarded by the Bank.

The annual Community Grants program is funded by the Commonwealth Bank Staff Community Fund; Australia’s longest running employee contribution program. Current and retired Bank staff contribute to the Fund from their pay with the Bank matching these contributions dollar for dollar.

The $2 million, which is being awarded to grant recipients across Australia this year, is the largest donation ever made by the Commonwealth Bank Staff Community Fund and makes the Commonwealth Bank Community Grants program one of the largest in the country.

Commonwealth Bank staff from branches across the country will visit recipients in their local community to congratulate them and personally present them with their grant.

Commonwealth Bank Community Grants ambassador Chloe Maxwell, founder of children’s charity 4 ASD Kids, applauded the winning charities on securing a grant.

“The vital funding provided by the Commonwealth Bank staff through the Community Grants program enables grassroots charity organisations around Australia to continue their valuable work with children in their community.”

Trent Moy, Commonwealth Bank General Manager, Community added: “On behalf of Commonwealth Bank, and the staff who contribute to make this program possible, I would like to congratulate all the grant recipients in 2012.”

“We are proud to be supporting these organisations and are firmly committed to make a positive difference around Australia in the communities in which we operate by investing in local initiatives.”

Since 2007, Commonwealth Bank staff have awarded 718 grants to community groups across Australia, worth over $5.6 million.

244 grants of up to $10,000 were awarded in the 2012 Community Grants program. A full list of 2012 grant recipients can be found at commbank.com.au/communitygrants
