Community colleges work to beat enrollment slump

How to get students in the door. That's the challenge for Illinois' community colleges, where enrollment statewide has dropped for a fourth straight year. Suburban schools, with the exception of College of DuPage, are trying to offset declines or build on modest gains. "Everything's slightly stagnant right now," said Phil Garber, who tracks the numbers at Elgin Community College.
