Cook County issues first marriage licenses to gay couples

Same-sex couples are able to get marriage licenses today in Cook County, thanks to a federal court ruling that has overridden the June 1 date that is in force in the rest of Illinois. Collar county officials are wondering if the ruling applies to them. The first license went to Charles Gurion of Chicago and his partner, David Wilk. Gurion, originally from Palatine, and Wilk rushed downtown. “We didn’t really have a plan,” Gurion said. “We were just so excited.”
