Disabled American Veterans honors Foundation Financial Group for volunteerism

February 01, 2011

Volunteer work raises $4,000 to help Jacksonville's wounded heroes.

What started as a corporate community service project for a local non-profit organization serving disabled veterans, resulted in thousands of dollars from unexpected donations.

In December 2010, a team from Foundation Financial Group volunteered to paint the exterior of the headquarters for Jacksonville's Southside chapter of the Disabled American Veterans, located at 1439 Parental Home Rd. As part of the community service project, team members and Foundation Financial Group donated funds along with paint and other materials. After WJXT, a Jacksonville TV station, broadcasted a story about the service project, donations began pouring in at the local DAV office from WJXT viewers.

"We are very grateful for what Foundation Financial Group did for us," said Buddy Rickman, chapter commander. "We never expected so many people to reach out and help us with donations after they saw the TV feature, and we owe it all to Foundation Financial Group for helping out."

Rickman and his fellow veterans recently presented Foundation Financial Group Chief Financial Officer and Navy veteran, who served in Desert Storm, Tanya Mauro with a plaque of appreciation for the work company employees performed in December. The plaque also serves as an additional thank you for the extra exposure and donations Foundation Financial Group created for the DAV.

"Foundation Financial Group is committed to community service and volunteerism," Mauro said. "Anything we can do to help groups such as the DAV only makes our community a better place to live. In Jacksonville, we have a very special relationship and commitment to the United States military."
