Donations of gold and silver coins arrive in kettles | |
December 05, 2012 The longstanding tradition of anonymous giving of gold coins to the Salvation Army continues, as a one-ounce Double Eagle gold coin worth about $1,730 was dropped in a kettle at the Jewel in Grayslake, the Salvation Army reported. Two Canadian gold coins were deposited in other locations and a donor also dropped a wad of bills amounting to $1,000 in a kettle in Gurnee.
