Ex gang member sky dives his way to raise £250,000 for his community projects and favourite charity Foster Net

July 03, 2013

On sunday 18th August 2013, Kayode Ariran will take part in a sponsored parachute jump, by which time he hopes to have raised £250,000.

Kayode Ariran, AKA (K.boy) is to raise £250,000 for worthy causes within the his local community. To start, he is taking part in a sky dive to raise money for Foster Net with his step daughter on Sunday August 18th.

Kay is beginning his fundraising campaign by raising an initial £40,000 towards his target via crowd funding website indiegogo.

Kay, the original producer and one of the co-founders of UK chart topping group: "Big Brovaz" was kicked out of home aged 15, and forced to live on the streets after his mum pasted away.

He soon became a member of the only "family" that we're around him at the time - members of the notorious street gang, known as Younger 28's - a gang that formed in Brixton during the Nineteen Nineties,

Kay, who has now turned his life around has set up the "Give Back Family" an organization that aims to bring people together and encourage them to "give back" their time and resources to the youth and worthy causes within the community. He says: "it is so important to have the right support at home". This is why he wants to raise money for Foster Network to help prevent young people living in homes who do not have the support of a family unit - and prevent them from looking for that support "on the streets".

The Sky dive is just the start of what; Kay and the "Give Back Family" plan to achieve. The Give Back team, based in Brixton aim to use the organisation to highlight a number of worthwhile causes many centered around young disadvantaged people within the community.

"The idea of the family is to provide help and support in the community targeted precisely to those who need it. Its not just about giving money its all about giving your time and resources. Giving others, especially the youth inspiration and a "giving back" hand that helps them to dream and to achieve. If we all gave back, I am confident that the world would be a much better place. I am someone that has walked the walk and so can talk the talk. The ", explains Kay.

One of Kay's intensions is to set up a Football Club in Brixton. He sees how many talented young boys are drawn away from pursuing their football dreams due to peer pressure and the lack of support at home and wants the football club to be a place where they can come, not just to play football but where they can find people who care and want to nurture talent both on and off the pitch. Giving them a place to go to help them to escape "the gang life".

The father of six has gained support from a number of Premier League footballers,
"I was fortunate enough to have somebody give back to me and now its my turn to do the same," says Kay. "This is why I started the Give Back Family. I think we are all blessed with a talent that we can teach others. The only problem is that the majority of us are too concerned with our own lives and the pursuit of making money [and] we forget that we have the capacity for so much more. It not all about money its about the people and we need to start giving back and helping each other and all we ask for is a little bit of your time, sometimes that's the most valuable thing we have."
