January 11, 2012 A Palatine man ambushed and killed a Mundelein woman in her home and then held her mother hostage for several hours before taking his own life, police said. A failed romance is to blame, police said. An autopsy on Alina S. Rybnikova revealed she died of two stab wounds to the chest that penetrated her heart.
