Groundbreaking film The Independent Jury Raising Financing via IndieGoGo

First court room drama to be made about jury nullification in development.

Maverick filmmaker Kent Probst is on a mission to bring his never before seen story of jury nullification, The Independent Jury, to the big screen. Like many young filmmakers, he has taken to IndieGoGo, a new ingenious way to finance the project.

According to the Huffington Post, IndieGoGo, Kickstarter and others have collectively raised tens to hundreds of millions of dollars for films, startups and other niche projects. "Their foot is in the door, and it's only a matter of time until film finance barrier-to-entry is toppled."

Film finance expert Jeff Steele recently told the Huffington Post, "If social media can facilitate a political revolution in Egypt, it should allow a filmmaker to raise one million to make a movie."

The Independent Jury navigates uncharted territory and examines one of the most controversial issues in criminal justice - jury nullification. Under the legal doctrine of jury nullification, if the jury believes the law is unjust or unjustly applied, they can deliver a not guilty verdict. Planned for summer production.

"I chose IndieGoGo because I can diversify my fundraising and not have to rely on just one type of film financing, and it allows people to help finance a film, who otherwise wouldn't be able to," says filmmaker Probst.

Hollywood script consultant Michael Brown believes Probst's film is a winner. "The Independent Jury is an inspiring film of empowerment and an affirmation of faith in people."

"The Independent Jury is a story that needs to be told, because if juries are to be a bulwark against tyranny, American citizens need to know that they have the right and responsibility, as well as the unreviewable and irreversible power, to nullify laws they feel are unjust by delivering an acquittal in disregard of the instructions by the trial judge to follow the law," says Probst.

Under the banner Declaration Pictures the vision is to produce movies with great dialogue, intriguing plots and fascinating characters that are, not only original, entertaining and timeless, but also that present themes not often seen, such as the advancement of individual liberty. His screenplays have made it to the finals of the Houston Worldfest, and the quarterfinals of the International Screenwriting Awards, the Fade In Awards and Scriptapalooza. Before becoming involved in screenwriting, he spent 4 years in the Air Force, producing TV news for Armed Forces Radio and Television and holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
