Growth stops in the outlying suburbs

New census data shows that the explosive growth in the outlying suburbs, sometimes called the "exurbs," has come to a screeching halt thanks to the recession, a pitiful housing market and record-high gasoline prices. "The heyday of exurbs may well be behind us," Yale University economist Robert J. Shiller said.
