LAIC Venture Capital announces a Bioenergy Joint Venture focusing on Rice, Sugarcane and Coconut

February 01, 2011

Steve Muehler, President of LAIC Venture Capital, announced today a new Bioenergy Joint Venture focusing on the processing of Rice, Sugarcane and Coconut into energy producing Biofuels.

This joint venture will establish three biofuels plants in the Philippines. Each plant will focus on a particular crop waste in line with the development of the Philippine biofuels industry within industries with existing business infrastructure with adequate wastes, These industries include the rice, coconut, and sugarcane industries. Each plant will have a capacity to process 80,000 tons of agricultural waste per year, which will then produce about 37,800,000 liters of total biofuels products comprising of 30,240,000 liters of mixed alcohol and about 7,560,000 liters of LPG. The three plants will be established to process rice hull and rice straw, bagasse from sugarcane, coconut husk and coconut shell. The business venture therefore will support the present thrusts of the Philippine government of shifting to biofuels in support of the Biofuels Act of 2006 and transforming agricultural wastes more productive. Since the approach to produce biofuels is to use agricultural waste, the project will not be affected by the ethical issues on using food crops and agricultural lands for biofuels in the Philippines.
