Oregon Financial Education Summit Will Address Strengthening State Financial Literacy Programs

January 07, 2011

Summit will bring together individuals and organizations throughout the state that are dedicated to improving the financial literacy of Oregonians.

The Oregon Jump$tart Coalition, a statewide, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the financial literacy of all Oregonians, will host the 2011 Oregon Financial Education Summit on Thursday, January 13 at the Salem Conference Center (200 Commercial Street, SE Salem, OR).

The summit will bring together individuals and organizations throughout the state that are dedicated to improving the financial literacy of Oregonians. Participants representing government, nonprofits, banks, credit unions, financial services and other organizations will gather to build upon their current efforts, identify problems and solutions, and hear from state and national leaders on the status and the future of financial education in Oregon.

In addition to breakout sessions focusing on consumer protection, community involvement, and youth financial education, the summit will include a presentation from Oregon State Treasurer Ted Wheeler discussing financial education.

"As financial literacy becomes recognized as a necessary life-skill in Oregon, the summit provides an important platform for representatives from across the state to address this important matter," said David Bell, vice chair, Jump$tart Oregon. "Together, our shared commitment to financial education will assist in growing the partnerships and education programs necessary to benefit all communities in Oregon."
