Prudent Investors Sit Tight and Ride Out Market Swings says Bill Hionas

August 28, 2011

Short-term fluctuations should not impact prudent investors.

MIAMI, FL - Gold was edging higher again Friday, following a fairly noncommittal stance from Ben Bernanke on any further easing. Prudent investors see corrections such as gold has experienced over the last two or three days as perfect buying opportunities; the trick is knowing how long to wait before jumping into the market. Even expert analysts are often divided on that one though the majority do concur that gold will rebound and that prices next week are likely to be higher.

Long-term investors will likely be little perturbed by rumors or even the more spectacular swings in the market. Investors who are in it for the long term understand that there will always be fluctuations, sometimes quite violent fluctuations, but that these do not necessarily affect the overall trend. They are happy to wait it out, confident that gold will eventually rebound and continue upwards. Speculators are in a different situation; they are looking to buy low and sell high, taking quick profits. Their actions can actually have noticeable effects on the market; profit taking as prices peak results in prices dropping while extensive buying in dips helps to send prices up again.

In truth no one can pretend to predict the future performance of gold or any precious metal with complete accuracy. Experts use charts, histories, algorithmic trading and many other scientific methods to come up with reasonably reliable forecasts; nevertheless an unforeseen natural disaster or political upset can turn any forecast on its head, temporarily at least. Bill Hionas heads a team of seasoned investors, brokers and traders at Pan American Metals of Miami that is available to advise clients on their gold bullion purchases. The team has over a hundred years of collective experience and shares this expertise with clients.
