Ruling deals big blow to teacher retirement cuts | |

July 03, 2014 An Illinois Supreme Court ruling Thursday could mean bad news for the sweeping retirement benefit cuts for teachers and state workers approved by lawmakers and Gov. Pat Quinn late last year. In allowing a complaint about retirees' health care costs to move forward, the court said in its written opinion that the Illinois Constitution clearly says pension benefits can't be cut, no matter how broke the state is.
