Safety systems, operator scrutinized after CTA crash

An automatic braking system like one scheduled to be installed by next year on some railroads might have helped stop a CTA train from derailing and flying onto an escalator at O’Hare International Airport Monday morning, investigators say. They’re also looking into why safety measures already in place did not prevent the crash, which injured 32 people. Meanwhile, a transit union official said the train operator “might have dozed off” before the crash.
