Seeking Justice: Wrongfully Convicted Individual Launches GoFundMe Campaign to Overturn Conviction in Minnesota

September 13, 2023

Gofundme campaign is to raise funds for investigation.

In a quest for justice, Tony Robinson, a male transitioning into female, and who goes by Terrella who was wrongfully convicted has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the investigation of their jury and legal fees required to file a post-conviction relief petition in the state of Minnesota. Terrella was 24 years old at the time of conviction, now 39, is determined to clear her name after being convicted of a crime allegedly committed when she was just 14, 15, and 16 years old.

The case revolves around a series of allegations made by a family member, which resulted in a trial. During the trial, critical medical evidence contradicted the accusations, as the state's expert witness testified that there were no signs of trauma or physical evidence to support the claims. However, the jury faced difficulty in reaching a verdict, leading Terrella to make a heart-wrenching decision to accept a plea agreement. This plea deal did not require an admission of guilt but resulted in a sentence of seven and a half years in prison with a lifetime burden.

Recent legal developments have provided new hope for justice. In January 2022, the Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled in Angelo Umphress’' case, a case that bears striking similarities to Terrella's. The court's conclusion that an adult cannot be charged as a juvenile has opened the door to the potential overturning of Terrela's conviction.

The GoFundMe campaign aims to raise funds for several critical aspects of Terrella's legal battle:

1. Investigating the Jury: Understanding the dynamics and thought processes of the jury during deliberations is pivotal in building a strong case for post-conviction relief.

2. Securing Legal Representation: The campaign seeks to enlist the support of experienced legal professionals to navigate the complex legal process of filing a post-conviction relief petition.

Terrella is deeply grateful for any financial support provided by individuals who share their commitment to justice. As a gesture of appreciation, Terrella has pledged to set aside 25% of any funds received after the conviction is overturned and successful civil litigation is pursued against the state. These funds will be distributed proportionately to all supporters who have contributed to this important cause.

By contributing to this GoFundMe campaign, supporters have the opportunity to stand with Terrella in her pursuit of justice, helping to right a terrible wrong and allowing them to rebuild her life. Together, the collective impact of supporters can make a profound difference in Terrella's fight to restore her innocence.
