December 15, 2013 Even though their towns share a border, people who live in Libertyville are twice as likely to be legally authorized to own guns as their Vernon Hills neighbors. Similar wide variations show up across the suburbs, a Daily Herald town-by-town analysis of Firearm Owners Identification data shows. On average, 11.3 percent of the residents of 100 suburban towns in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties have gun permits.
