Suburban schools can no longer require birth certificates

Federal officials say school districts' policy requiring an original birth certificate to register students for school discriminates against undocumented immigrants. Many suburban districts are now scrambling to figure out how to verify the age of potential students. "We don't deny anybody an education or access to school. But it does present some difficulties and challenges as to verifying a child's real age," a Palatine school official said.
