Teen Author Releases Book after Interviewing More Than 500 Athletes | |

July 14, 2012 Young author Matthew Pearlman releases a book of wisdom gathered from interviews with more than 500 athletes. He hopes the book will inspire teens and others to strive for personal success through characteristics such as integrity and perseverance. By age 13, Matthew Pearlman had interviewed more than 500 top athletes and authored a fascinating book, That's Great Advice! Advice from Pro Athletes for Kids, Written by a Kid, to help share the wisdom of these sports icons. The book will officially be released on July 19, 2012. Pearlman wrote That's Great Advice! Advice from Pro Athletes for Kids, Written by a Kid for teens, their families and anyone who teaches, guides, coaches and mentors kids. Since June 2010, Pearlman has conducted more than 500 interviews with professional athletes as a teen sports reporter. His book highlights more than 70 of these interviews. Not only is each featured athlete profiled, but they also explain their struggles and triumphs and the principles that helped them eventually to succeed. A book release party and press conference are scheduled for Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Lester's Sports Bar & Grill in Ladue, Missouri (a suburb of St. Louis) from 4 pm to 7 pm. "The sources for my book, That's Great Advice!, were the many athletes I interviewed, but my inspiration were the at-risk second graders I am fortunate to mentor every week," said Pearlman. "I want to share with them, and teens and children everywhere, how I was motivated by what I learned from these athletes." Each chapter of That's Great Advice! relates to a specific success quality, such as perseverance, leadership, integrity and volunteering. Other chapters address contemporary issues important to teens, including anti-bullying, giving back and working hard to follow one's dream. Pearlman spent months as a 10- and 11-year-old phoning, faxing and emailing pro athletes requesting interviews. None responded until he received a surprise phone call from Brett Hull, National Hockey League Hall of Fame member. Pearlman conducted the interview, and it was the first he uploaded to his website www.TeensOnSports.com. Hull commented on the book, "I definitely would have read this book as a kid. Any time you can help young people deal with tough problems, it is very important. The stories and advice from successful people that have already dealt with these issues and overcome them will help others." Pearlman will be appearing at book signings and discussion forums throughout the summer at various St. Louis suburban locations on these dates: Saturday, July 21; Sunday, July 22; Saturday, August 4; and Sunday, August 5.
