Wheeling officer who struck, killed pedestrian a 22-year veteran | |

September 15, 2014 The Wheeling police officer whose vehicle struck and killed 20-year-old Des Plaines man early Sunday morning is a 22-year veteran of the department, officials said Monday. An initial investigation revealed that the officer, who has not yet been named, was attempting to catch up to a traffic violator, but had not yet activated his vehicle's flashing lights or sirens, before striking Fredi Morales.
