Wind Wide Limited Sets Sights On Chaozhou Taiwan Strait Wind Project

December 14, 2022

Wind Wide (HK) Limited is bidding for a supplier contract for a large wind farm project being developed by the Chinese city of Chaozhou.

Hong Kong-based floating wind power generation pioneer, Wind Wide (HK) Limited has prepared a bid to supply Floating Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (FVAWTs) for a large floating wind farm set to become operational in 2025.

The wind farm is being developed by the city of Chaozhou in the Guangdong province in southern China and will boast capacity that will produce enough power to supply all of Norway. Work is scheduled to begin before 2025 and the farm is to be located between 75 and 185 kilometers off the city’s coast in the Taiwan Strait.

“The area has distinctive topographical features which produce strong winds that will be able to drive our FVAWTs close to 50% of the time,” explained Wind Wide Limited’s Chief Operations Officer.

“Although China is the world’s largest producer of greenhouse gases and the largest importer of fossil fuels, it is making a huge investment in renewable energy which can be seen in the sheer scale of the development planned for Chaozhou and we would very much like to be part of it,” he added.

Indeed, last year, China added a record-breaking 16.9 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity and boasts more offshore wind turbines than any other country in the world.

Wind Wind Limited produces a turbine that is capable of withstanding high speed winds generated by the strongest tropical cyclones thanks to an innovative gearing solution that enables the turbine to rotate more slowly than a comparable horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) despite offering far superior power generation capacity.
